Curator Notes

BioWare’s Baldur’s Gate (1998) and Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn (2000) defined the Infinity Engine role-playing game on PC, set in the Forgotten Realms of Dungeons & Dragons. Beamdog revisited both as Enhanced Editions in 2012 and 2013. Skybound Games released the pair on Nintendo Switch on October 15, 2019, marking the series’ twentieth anniversary and its first appearance on consoles. The collection holds Baldur’s Gate with Tales of the Sword Coast and Siege of Dragonspear, and Baldur’s Gate II with Throne of Bhaal. The filing joins the Baldur’s Gate lineage already on the shelf.

Collection Documentation

The retained object is Skybound Games’ retail edition of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions on a single Nintendo Switch game card. Dedicated artifact views of the individual copy have not yet been filed; the gallery below is held open for that documentation.

Preservation Notes

Access Hardware
Nintendo Switch; compatible Nintendo Switch family hardware
Original Hardware
Nintendo Switch
Playback Compatibility
Nintendo Switch software is region-free. The retained game card is the primary access copy and runs on any Nintendo Switch console.
Preservation Concerns
Game cards are flash media; long-term charge retention, contact wear, and loss of the small card from its case are the principal risks. Any content delivered as an eShop download or update depends on Nintendo’s servers and is not preserved by the card alone.
Edition History
Baldur’s Gate released December 21, 1998; Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn in September 2000. Beamdog’s Enhanced Editions followed in November 2012 and November 2013. The Switch collection (HAC-P-ATNRA) released October 15, 2019; non-English languages are delivered as free downloadable content.
Access Status
Distributed at retail by Skybound Games, with a digital edition on the Nintendo eShop.
