Curator Notes

Chrono Cross is Square’s 1999 PlayStation follow-up to Chrono Trigger, a story of parallel worlds directed by Masato Kato with music by Yasunori Mitsuda. The Radical Dreamers Edition, released digitally on April 7, 2022, updates its character art and presentation and adds Radical Dreamers: Nusumenai Hōseki, the 1996 Satellaview text adventure that seeded Chrono Cross, in its first official English release. Outside Asia it was digital only; the physical card was released in Asia on April 26, 2022, with English text. This filing opens the Chrono lineage on the shelf.

Collection Documentation

The retained object is the Asian physical edition of Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition on a Nintendo Switch game card, with English text. Dedicated artifact views of the individual copy have not yet been filed; the gallery below is held open for that documentation.

Preservation Notes

Access Hardware
Nintendo Switch; compatible Nintendo Switch family hardware
Original Hardware
Nintendo Switch
Playback Compatibility
Nintendo Switch software is region-free. The retained game card is the primary access copy and runs on any Nintendo Switch console.
Preservation Concerns
Game cards are flash media; long-term charge retention, contact wear, and loss of the small card from its case are the principal risks. Any content delivered as an eShop download or update depends on Nintendo’s servers and is not preserved by the card alone.
Edition History
Chrono Cross released in Japan in November 1999 and North America in August 2000. The Radical Dreamers Edition released digitally on April 7, 2022; the Asian physical Switch edition (HAC-P-AYZEA) released April 26, 2022.
Access Status
Physically distributed in Asia only; elsewhere the game was issued digitally on the Nintendo eShop.
