Curator Notes

Crystar is an action RPG built around grief: Rei Hatada is pulled into Purgatory with her sister Mirai, and fights by weeping, crystallising her tears into power to bring Mirai back. Naoki Hisaya wrote the scenario and Sakuzyo composed the music. FuRyu released it on PlayStation 4 in Japan in October 2018. The Nintendo Switch version, with the earlier add-on content included, followed in Japan on February 24, 2022, and from NIS America in North America on March 29, 2022.

Collection Documentation

The retained object is NIS America’s retail edition of Crystar on a Nintendo Switch game card. Dedicated artifact views of the individual copy have not yet been filed; the gallery below is held open for that documentation.

Preservation Notes

Access Hardware: Nintendo Switch; compatible Nintendo Switch family hardware
Original Hardware: Nintendo Switch
Playback Compatibility: Nintendo Switch software is region-free. The retained game card is the primary access copy and runs on any Nintendo Switch console.
Preservation Concerns: Game cards are flash media; long-term charge retention, contact wear, and loss of the small card from its case are the principal risks. Any content delivered as an eShop download or update depends on Nintendo’s servers and is not preserved by the card alone.
Edition History: PlayStation 4 release in Japan on October 18, 2018; English release on PlayStation 4 and PC on August 27, 2019. Nintendo Switch release in Japan February 24, 2022; North America March 29, 2022 (HAC-P-A5AWB).
Access Status: Distributed at retail by NIS America, with a digital edition on the Nintendo eShop.
