Curator Notes

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is director Takeyasu Sawaki’s action game drawn from the apocryphal Book of Enoch: the scribe Enoch pursues seven fallen angels to avert the Flood, through stages rendered like moving paintings. It first released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. Sawaki’s studio crim, which acquired the property, remastered it in HD, adding the post-game novella Lucifel’s Fall. The Nintendo Switch version released on April 28, 2024, and Limited Run Games produced its Western physical edition as Switch Limited Run #226. This filing opens the El Shaddai lineage on the shelf.

Preservation Notes

Nintendo Switch; compatible Nintendo Switch family hardware
Original Hardware
Nintendo Switch
Playback Compatibility
Nintendo Switch software is region-free. The retained game card is the primary access copy and runs on any Nintendo Switch console.
Preservation Concerns
Game cards are flash media; long-term charge retention, contact wear, and loss of the small card from its case are the principal risks. Any content delivered as an eShop download or update depends on Nintendo’s servers and is not preserved by the card alone.
Edition History
Original release in Japan on April 28, 2011 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360); North America August 16, 2011. HD Remaster on PC in September 2021. Nintendo Switch release April 28, 2024; Limited Run Games issued the physical edition (HAC-P-A959A) as Switch Limited Run #226 in standard and Deluxe editions.
Access Status
Limited Run Games’s physical edition was a limited production and now circulates through the secondary market. The digital Switch edition was issued separately on the Nintendo eShop.
