Curator Notes

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is set on Mt. Hikami, a mountain of water rites and suicides, where three protagonists — Yuri Kozukata, Ren Hojo, and Miu Hinasaki — confront its ghosts with the Camera Obscura. It first released on Wii U in Japan in September 2014. The remaster released digitally worldwide on October 28, 2021. Physical copies were issued only in Japan and Asia; this copy is the Asian edition with an English cover. This filing opens the Fatal Frame lineage on the shelf.

Collection Documentation

The retained object is the Asian retail edition of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water on a Nintendo Switch game card, with an English cover. Dedicated artifact views of the individual copy have not yet been filed; the gallery below is held open for that documentation.

Preservation Notes

Access Hardware
Nintendo Switch; compatible Nintendo Switch family hardware
Original Hardware
Nintendo Switch
Playback Compatibility
Nintendo Switch software is region-free. The retained game card is the primary access copy and runs on any Nintendo Switch console.
Preservation Concerns
Game cards are flash media; long-term charge retention, contact wear, and loss of the small card from its case are the principal risks. English voices and subtitles were added by an update released November 30, 2021; the card as issued is not playable in English without that update, which depends on Nintendo’s servers.
Edition History
Wii U release in Japan on September 27, 2014; the West in October 2015. The remaster released digitally worldwide on October 28, 2021; the Asian physical edition followed in November 2021, with English delivered by update.
Access Status
Physically distributed in Japan and Asia only; elsewhere the remaster was issued digitally.
