Curator Notes

Mana Khemia takes the alchemy at the centre of Gust’s Atelier games and sets it inside a school: classes, grades, free time, and a cast that matters more than the quest structure around them. It is an Atelier spin-off in everything but name, and it carries the series’ habit of making synthesis the real heart of the game. Gust developed and published it in Japan in June 2007. NIS America released it in North America on March 31, 2008 in a retail Premium Box with the soundtrack, a mini-poster, and a synthesis reference sheet. A separate 1,000-copy Scholarship Box with a figure was sold only through NIS America’s store; it is not this object. The filing sits with the Atelier Iris trilogy under the Atelier series authority, and with Mana Khemia 2 as its direct sequel.

Collection Documentation

Purchased factory sealed and opened for custody while assembling the Gust PlayStation 2 shelf. The copy is mint and complete in its Premium Box. The retained object is the North American NIS America Premium Box (SLUS-21735P): the outer box, the standard keep case with pressed disc, manual, and cover insert, the original soundtrack CD, the mini-poster, and the synthesis reference sheet. The reference photograph records the seven Gust PlayStation 2 holdings together, as filed in the Collection Hall under synthesis.

Playback Compatibility: Pressed for North American PlayStation 2 consoles. The retained game disc remains the primary access copy; the soundtrack CD is retained as part of the edition.
Preservation Concerns: Optical-disc aging and surface damage remain the principal risks, alongside wear to the premium box itself. The game case is stored upright under stable, dry conditions; the box, printed extras, and any soundtrack disc remain housed together with the copy.
Edition History: First issued in Japan by Gust on June 21, 2007 as マナケミア～学園の錬金術士たち～. The North American NIS America localization followed on March 31, 2008 (SLUS-21735) in the retail Premium Box. The PlayStation Portable edition, Mana Khemia: Student Alliance, and the store-exclusive Scholarship Box are separate objects and are not this filing.
