2016 promises a lot of new things on a vast amount of different levels for gaming, from the new installments in key franchises like Call of Duty or Battlefield all the way up to games like Horizon. Gaming is a home to many people, myself included, and there are so many coming this year that I wanted to share with you guys today and see what you guys are stoked for as well.
I had a very select few games that really stood out to me as must-plays seeing my big games released recently (ie: Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront) but they were still there.
DOOMis the only release of 2016 that will consume a huge portion of my time just because the franchise is nostalgic to me, and come on: it’s Bethesda. I remember turning on my family-owned PlayStation at the age of 5 and throwing in a copy of DOOM after I was explicitly told not to by everyone in the house except my uncle. It introduced me to a whole new genre of gaming that is known as your “FPS” titles, or “first person shooters.” I was granted closed access not too long ago to the alpha tests Bethesda held for the reboot on my PlayStation 4. Even though I was playing online multiplayer and not swinging chainsaw or double barrel shotguns, I felt that same chill down my spine I did when I was a kid.
Horror games have always been my soft spot, so the second installment in the Outlast series lands second place on my list. I don’t want to make this article a complete trip down the memory lane, so I’m gonna keep why I’m excited for the new game as brief as I can. Outlast itself was a very short game, hardly four hours as I recall, but it to this day it is still one of the scariest experiences I’ve had. Mount Massive Asylum was a perfect setting for the first game with the perfect level of depth and mystery. Images of the second game have appeared online. They do not show any gameplay or really give us all that much beyond some intriguing concept art showing off a new, spooky, Children of the Corn aesthetic. So, yes, I do plan on shitting myself this year as I venture once more into Red Barrel’s wonderful nightmare.
There are a number of others games that i don't doubt will begin to pique my interest as the year goes on, but for now, these two are the ones that I know for sure I'll be preordering to enjoy to their max potential.
