Advice for Warped Tour Attendees!

It’s that time of year again where the scene kids all gather up to see Sleeping With Sirens and push-mosh around in neon band merch at Warped Tour, and considering that the older generation of metalheads are being fucked over this year with the cancellation of the yearly Mayhem Festival, I figured I might as well let all newcomers in on some information:

1:        Teenagers Are Ruthless
Warped Tour is ridden with teenagers and pre-teens gathering to see their favorite post-hardcore and pop-punk bands, and for many, that is a red flag. I personally know a lot of older metalheads that are going to this year’s Warped Tour due to the crazy good line-up over on the Monster Energy stages. For some reason, every single teenager, myself included, feel as if they are entitled to something or are more powerful than their elders. Watch out for those kids that are just looking to take their issues out on someone. As little as bumping into them or mentioning that you hate the band on someone’s T-shirt can set them off. Don’t mind them - they may be annoying, but they are complete and utter pussies.

2:        DRINKS
Metal Injection posted an article similar to this for other festivals and gave me the idea to put it in here. Due to its popularity, Warped Tour is usually held at the state's biggest outside venue. Nobody in their right state of mind should be forced to pay $8.00 for a small can of beer, especially if the festival is going to run you all day. You can get away with putting a flask at the bottom of a purse or something bigger in a backpack if you say it’s filled with diapers and formula for your kid if security hassles you (make sure to actually pack some diapers in there). Depending on the venue, you can sometimes bring in one unopened bottle of water and they will usually take the cap off and let you in. For the younger crowd, this should be your go-to, Gatorade at my venue is a whopping six dollars (the smaller bottle, of course), so I never buy drinks anymore. They usually have a station where you can fill up a water bottle with tap water and call it a day, which is the smarter option, of course.

3:       FOOD
When you buy your Warped ticket from TicketMaster, they usually have an option for a meal deal containing a slice of pizza, a drink, and fries for like $9.00. As expensive as that may seem, Warped Tour is usually about 10-12 hours long, and you will get hungry. Seeing as re-entry isn’t allowed at most venues, you will want to buy that package because you’ll end up paying like $7.00 for the pizza alone if you don’t!

4:       BANDS
Everyone has specific bands they go to Warped every year for, and sometimes you get faced with an ultimatum between your favorites.I remember vividly last year having to pick between what I believe was The Amity Affliction and PVRIS due to both playing at the same time on different stages. Now if I had the time to go back I would have choseb PVRIS over Amity due to the change in taste I’ve had for each band. You will learn to despise Warped for letting this happen more often than it should, but unfortunately it’s the only way to get the show over in a little under 12 hours.

5:     BAGS
This may seem like common sense to some, but I forgot to bring a drawstring bag my first time attending Warped. Trust me, it is necessary. If you’re like any average concert attendee, you will see merch you want from your favorite bands at their tents but you won’t want to carry it. This is a dilemma considering the length of the festival. Bringing a drawstring back allows you to purchase whatever and throw it into the bag for a secure way to carry it without it being much of a burden.

With all that being said, you’ll learn many other tips from being out there and going to Warped yourself. These are small but meaningful tips to help you survive besides the basic “Don’t wear dark clothes or you’ll sweat” and “Don’t mosh for 9 hours if you can’t handle it.” Warped Tour is on the road now and is hitting almost every state sooner than later. Connecticut is July 10th and Massachusetts is July 13th. Stay cool and have some fun with your friends.
