TraumaxQueen is a straight edge hardcore band from South Carolina or the dirty south, whichever you prefer to call it that pushes the boundaries of almost being a punk band with insane groove. I caught these guys at the start of the year at a show in Woodbridge, CT with the boys in Boundaries as they kicked off their short run with them and it was nothing short but amazing, a band I hope to see play around here again. I followed their media and realized recently they were releasing a promo and some merch before hitting the road again and it ignited some serious excitement inside of me, I was hyped, and the hype paid off. This promo is flames from beyond here, from Satan’s chair himself, he released the almost flawless TraumaxQueen promo.
Just from the intro you get those hardcore vibes that pull you in especially with the sound quality of a hidden bandcamp gem, and that’s in no way a bad thing, at least I think. It shows its work and evilness having that basement-esque sound to it, which sometimes is needed as it adds a more personal and intimate vibe to the music, almost placing you at one of their shows. If you expected anything but absolute madness from the first two tracks especially the second “Empty” you are in for a rude awakening, I’m pretty sure I got Vietnam flashbacks (or at least some of me getting crowd-killed from previous shows since I didn’t fight in ‘Nam) from listening to this EP all the way through about eight times on a loop, it’s menacing and almost to an extent ultraviolent but at the same time holds a perfect amount of groove that makes you feel like you have to move to the beat to get the full experience.
“False Sense of Self” has the perfect amount of riffage and even has what feels like vocals you’d expect from a band like Ghost at one point, which is fucking awesome. “Sentience” is the perfect outro track for the EP, it leaves on a solid mark while making you want more right off the bat, which is never a bad thing. Seriously though, check these guys out, the EP is free on Bandcamp, what bad can come of it, you lost no money if you dislike it somehow. If you like what these dudes are doing, pick up a shirt or a hat, give em some money so they can make more music because the world needs more TraumaxQueen and that’s a serious fact.
