Curator Notes

Bayonetta is Hideki Kamiya’s character action game for PlatinumGames, first released by SEGA in Japan on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 29, 2009. Its dodge-triggered Witch Time and combo system became the studio’s signature. Nintendo brought it to Switch on February 16, 2018. In North America it was at first available only digitally or as a download code packaged with Bayonetta 2; a standalone physical game card followed on September 30, 2022, ahead of Bayonetta 3. This filing opens the Bayonetta lineage on the shelf, beside its two sequels.

Collection Documentation

The retained object is Nintendo’s standalone physical edition of Bayonetta for Nintendo Switch. Dedicated artifact views of the individual copy have not yet been filed; the gallery below is held open for that documentation.

Preservation Notes

Access Hardware
Nintendo Switch; compatible Nintendo Switch family hardware
Original Hardware
Nintendo Switch
Playback Compatibility
Nintendo Switch software is region-free. The retained game card is the primary access copy and runs on any Nintendo Switch console.
Preservation Concerns
Game cards are flash media; long-term charge retention, contact wear, and loss of the small card from its case are the principal risks. Any content delivered as an eShop download or update depends on Nintendo’s servers and is not preserved by the card alone.
Edition History
Original release in Japan on October 29, 2009 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360), published by SEGA. Nintendo Switch release February 16, 2018; the standalone North American physical edition (HAC-P-AE99A) followed on September 30, 2022.
Access Status
Distributed at retail by Nintendo, with a digital edition on the Nintendo eShop.
